Integrity

Daily writing prompt
What is something others do that sparks your admiration?

I pondered this question for a short while, considering empathy, honesty, openness, and kindness as my answers.

And then it dawned on me that ALL of these things can be wrapped neatly into: INTEGRITY.

What does it mean to have integrity?

To have integrity means to be honest, morally upright, and consistent in your actions by adhering to a strong set of ethical principles, even when no one is watching. It is about aligning your values with your behavior, doing the right thing even when it is difficult, and being trustworthy.

Key components of integrity:

  • Honesty: Being truthful in your words and actions, and being honest with yourself.
  • Strong moral principles: Consistently following a personal code of ethics, which includes fairness, responsibility, and accountability.
  • Consistency: Acting in a way that aligns with your values, regardless of the situation or whether you are being observed.
  • Doing the right thing: Making ethical choices and decisions, even if they are inconvenient or unpopular.
  • Responsibility: Taking ownership of your actions and admitting when you are wrong.

I, myself, strive to have integrity. I’m not perfect by any means, so I strive to always do better and grow further, especially when I make mistakes. And so, I truly admire when someone can be consistently open, honest, kind, and display empathy for others, amongst other things that fall under the integrity umbrella.
