Wild Animals

Daily writing prompt
Do you ever see wild animals?

I want to go two ways with this, lol. Literal and conceptual.

Given that I live in the suburbs of Colorado Springs, the most I can hope to see as far as “wild” animals is concerned is… squirrels. And they’re brave little shits, too. They stand on the wooden fence in the back yard and chitter indignantly at any cat that happens to be outside. They aren’t afraid of me, that’s for sure. One of them looked me dead in the eye as it munched on a peach from our tree, daring me to do shit about it. Haha. I’m honestly surprised we haven’t (yet) had one brought into the house by Comet (dead or alive). There are also bunnies in the neighborhood, which is so weird for me. In Arkansas, squirrels and bunnies weren’t scarce, but they were scared of everything and ran at the sight of a human or domesticated pet. These bunnies will usually sit on a manicured lawn and just… stare at you as you go by. Frickin wild.

Now, if we truly want to get down to a conceptualized topic… humans are the wildest of “wild” animals. And they’re EVERYWHERE. There’s legitimately over 70k of them here in The Springs alone, never mind commuters and *gag* tourists. You can’t walk 10 feet outside without seeing a human in some capacity. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, too. It’s a giant rainbow of a wild species just running around out there basically unsupervised… every single day.

Of these wild animals… I prefer the squirrels and bunnies. I do venture out into the concrete jungle here and there, but I avoid the humans as much as I possibly can. I mean… I have to interact with them once in a while, but if I’m going to be forced to do that, I’d rather it be for my medical and mental health appointments. Outside of that, I wanna stay home and avoid them.
