Gratitude

Daily writing prompt
How do you express your gratitude?

Ambigrams are pretty awesome, if you ask me. This is one of my tattoos, which I got ages ago, inspired by my Mentor (Ursa). I was actually IN Colorado at the time of conception, when I spent a solid 6 hours drawing it. It didn’t look like what I have now, though, because when I finally got the tattoo itself, they used an Ambigram Creation tool and printed it out. It looked better than what I’d drawn from scratch, so I went with it. The symbol below it is an “Empath” protection symbol.

Whew. Gratitude, eh? I suppose I could start off with saying how grateful I am for Ursa. She taught me SO feckin much for years, including the practice of Gratitude itself. Hence the tattoo – a reminder to take a moment here and there and be grateful for the things I DO have, whether abstract and intangible or otherwise.

Looking back on my life, with all the trauma and abuse I’ve gone through, I have had a rough time being grateful. I’m still not great at pondering it on my own most of the time (despite my tattoo lol), given how much of a Pessimist I am (I’m slowly working on that). But that’s just MY life. And we are often harder on ourselves than others.

When it comes to showing gratitude for others… I’d like to think I’m pretty good at it. I express thanks verbally with ease and do my best to do that as often as I can. Sometimes, sending a GIF or meme qualifies. I also love to create and give things to people I love, which is a form of gratitude for their existence in my life. Anything I create with my own hands for others is a pouring out of the deep emotions into a physical and tangible item that serves as a reminder of how I feel. Hand-made cards, written poetry/letters, paintings, knitted items… all the crafty things I’m able to do fall into that category.
