62.5 – For Last Week’s MM:
The smarter you are, the better the excuses. Sometimes it’s more useful to turn your brain off.
You can always be right or you can learn and become successful.
But you can’t do both.
Where in your life are you choosing being right over being successful? What’s this costing you?
Pick one thing you’ve been making excuses about. Go do it. Let me know what happens.
Well… this is a rough one for my fog-addled brain too early on a Monday lol
I’m not one to think that I am always right, so the difficulty is the “making excuses” aspect and what I would define as ” success” at this juncture in my life (given all the mental/emotional/physical issues I have gained over the last 10+ years). I DO ponder – quite frequently – if I am merely making excuses for not being able to do things like I used to… but that’s the crux of it, no? I have to consistently and repeatedly accept additional restrictions and limitations to a plethora of aspects of my existence, so these aren’t excuses for not doing things or striving for success and failing. I mean… am I right that I can’t walk a mile, so I can’t successfully complete a task that requires that? Yes… but that isn’t an excuse, it’s a limitation. I legitimately cannot be successful at a thing I can’t do any more.
So… I have to ponder where I might be making excuses and limiting myself more than what my body/brain already do? Pretty difficult.
63.0 – How to Make Your Eight-Year-Old Self Happy
Two things for you to think about
Do things that would make your eight-year-old self happy and your eighty-year-old self proud.
Change requires letting a former version of yourself die.
Therefore, maturity is a series of small funerals for the people you used to be.
Reflect: Then consider sharing this thought with others.
Two things for you to ask yourself
What could you do today that would make your eight-year-old self happy?
What could you do today that would make your eighty-year-old self proud?
Recommended: Use these as journaling prompts for the week.
One thing for you to try this week
Go do those two things. Today. Reply and let me know how that feels.
Remember: Small changes lead to lasting breakthroughs.
As for how I’m doing… I want to make a note about this week’s topic first, because… well, it seems like my 8-year old self is a really hot topic lately. And I don’t mean just talking about it, but actually re-parenting my 8-year old self – specifically with EMDR and Ashana’s trauma program. It’s intense. It’s difficult AF. And holy hell is it emotionally exhausting! I’m going to make a solid attempt to keep this in my mind this week, so I have more to write about next time.
Saturday was the visit to the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center. It snowed some on the way there, during, and on the way back down the mountain, but… that isn’t a big deal. I got a TON of pictures and really did emotionally enjoy myself. Since I’ve been keeping track of spoons with the Juno app lately, I can report that the whole event added 2 spoons for that reason… however, it also deducted FIVE – because walking and standing and hills and ugh. It was horrendously taxing on my physical and mental capacities. I legit cried in the car because I was finally able to sit and omfg everything hurt.
Was it worth it? I would say 75% yes. I really wish the howling thing at the end could’ve been more rewarding, but I feel like an entire group of 60-ish people all howling at once was confusing for the wolves, which is why we only got one or two half-hearted wolves doing a howl back. If we could’ve had ONE person howl and get them started, it would’ve been so much better.
All the same… I DID have a good time 🙂
My mom went and stayed the night. The next morning, though, I was completely drained and in the red as far as spoons and social battery went. I’m not sure if the Juno app is capable of negative spoons (haven’t checked, tbh), but if it were… I would’ve started at a -2/10 (which would be a deficit of 5 spoons right out the gate). All that to say… my mom had an expectation that we 3 would hang out, socialize, maybe do something fun together (like a new puzzle), but… I just did NOT have it in me. This wouldn’t be a problem, except that she takes it extremely personally (like… “nobody wants to spend time with me” stuff), so when she was packing and getting ready to leave, I commented that we were boring, and she was passive-aggressive (a seriously immature habit she’s had forever) and said, “Well, everyone is always doing their own thing. My dog probly misses me anyway.”
<insert long heavy sigh with eyeroll>
Whatever…
Today is a little better spoon-wise, because Granny Sidhé call, but I have to get a crown replaced in less than an hour, so… bleh.
